"Julie"

Another one from the archives!! This is still a favorite of mine. This shot always reminded me of a 30's movie poster. And it wasn't planned it just happened. The subject is Julie Alspaugh or now Julie Dunham or as I always call her "Miss Julie". She was my first model for a lot of photos. She lived down the street from me and when I got an idea I would call her and we would get together and shoot. If she had a new dress, hat or this trenchcoat that would be good for pictures we would always camera test them. I ran into her the other day (wal-mart of course, seems like that is where I see everyone) and did a little catching up. Julie teaches at Independence high school and is the mother of four. Yikes! makes me feel old. Good photos happen when the subject wants to be photographed and the photographer can be his or her self, and that was always the case with these photo sessions. And if you haven't figured it out the girl in the chair in the field on this blog and on the home page...."Miss Julie"

Wednesday test shoot with Ring flash

These photographs are from a session to test a new ringlight flash unit. The first photograph in the stairwell was shot with the ringflash. The ringflash lights the entire scene evenly. So you will notice the walls are bright and in other photographs they would be more in shadow.

The second photo was shot in natural light -- no ringflash.
I tend to prefer natural lighting over flash photos because natural light can be more dramatic because of the shadows and the highlights.

The subject is an Altamont native I've known for his entire life -- Ian Ybarra, a 2000 graduate of Labette County High School. Ian studied engineering at MIT and is currently a professional writer living in Boston. His last book was about how companies can better recruit college graduates to work for them (Recruit Or Die - Amazon.com). I frequently use him as my test shoot guinea pig when he's home visiting his family.

Well it is spring! And time for wildflowers. Was out and about today and found this field. Luckily Lauren Volmer was coming for pictures and we took advantage of the field. The colors were beautiful and light was great. Nice to see the sun.

Was out shooting today before the rain really started. Actually it was sprinkling on us the whole time but we managed to finish and the light was nice and soft. This was a location shoot for Trey Lahey from Labette County High School. We had shot his studio photos in the fall and just now getting around to doing the fun ones. Trey is a hunter and outdoorsman, and the only way to make those photos look real is to be in those spots. This pond we used for shooting is just down the road from his house and worked great for these shots.

One of the things I have found in setting up the new website and blog is the opportunity to go through stacks of photos old and new. This photo was shot years ago when I was first starting in business. And it is still one of my favorites. I love the softness and the colors and the overall feel of this photograph. I think one of the things that happen when you have been in business for awhile sometimes the business overtakes the photography. And you forget about how much fun being creative can be. So any ideas are welcome at Kesler Photography, if you have a specific idea, or certain location or item you want to bring please do not hesitate to let me know. And hope you enjoy this old but still favorite photograph.

The photo from the below post (sorry for the text later I am still working out the bugs on my posting!) The young lady is Lisbeth Hollenbeck from Wichita. Originally from Neodesha I have shot previously all her siblings. So she decided to come down for senior pics in the Valley. Thanks Lisbeth! And for the great images.

Shot some ad photos for upcoming senior pictures season today. Want to say thanks to Whitney Green, Leigh Ann Omarkhail and Rodney Fleming for helping me out. Thanks guys even though it was a little chilly out there today, I think we got some nice photos. Here is one from our session. Thanks for the bare feet!!

Here is a shot of all the senior girls from Parsons Prom last night. It was a chilly and windy night but the wind seemed to calm durning the walk in which was good for all the couples. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. I am sure they all enjoyed project prom which sounded like a lot of activities were planned!

Prom Night

Well Prom season is upon Kesler photography. In the process of getting equipment together to head to Parsons High School for their prom tonight. And by the looks of the weather it may be a chilly one. Parsons always does a good job of theme's and decorating. Will post some prom photos later so you all can see the kids in their prom attire.

One of the best parts of being a photographer is the new places you get to discover. This wonderful old weathered house is at Lenapah Oklahoma. The subject is Jake Folk who attends Oklahoma Union High School. We did studio work and locations at his home with his horse of this house, which as you can see made some really nice photos!

Well I guess I am like a kid with a new toy but have to do a post or two to get the feel of it! This young lady will be a senior next year at Parsons she came down and did some sample work for me and want to say thanks Mallory you took some great photos. The antique bench she is on came from Dewey Oklahoma if any of you out there are antique buffs. Lots of great shops there.
You can also see some more of Mallory on the home page and first gallery.
Well this process of course hasn't been on my own. Luckily one of my senior clients Caitlin Lawrence has been my tutor and right hand to get all this info in my brain. This image is an experiment with photoshop filters. Also on the website check out some of Caitlin's senior pics in the feature section.

Hey everybody Kesler Photography has finally gone digital! It took awhile but I am enjoying the learning process. A lot to remember but I am getting there. So check every now and again for new posts.
