LCHS Prom

LCHS PROM

Some pics from the LCHS prom saturday night. It turned out to be a beautiful evening and everyone looked great. Pictures went well and everyone seemed organized and hopefully we got through them in good time so they can enjoy "prom time" and not standing in picture line. Lots of different and beautiful dresses!!!

"Julie"

Another one from the archives!! This is still a favorite of mine. This shot always reminded me of a 30's movie poster. And it wasn't planned it just happened. The subject is Julie Alspaugh or now Julie Dunham or as I always call her "Miss Julie". She was my first model for a lot of photos. She lived down the street from me and when I got an idea I would call her and we would get together and shoot. If she had a new dress, hat or this trenchcoat that would be good for pictures we would always camera test them. I ran into her the other day (wal-mart of course, seems like that is where I see everyone) and did a little catching up. Julie teaches at Independence high school and is the mother of four. Yikes! makes me feel old. Good photos happen when the subject wants to be photographed and the photographer can be his or her self, and that was always the case with these photo sessions. And if you haven't figured it out the girl in the chair in the field on this blog and on the home page...."Miss Julie"

Wednesday test shoot with Ring flash

These photographs are from a session to test a new ringlight flash unit. The first photograph in the stairwell was shot with the ringflash. The ringflash lights the entire scene evenly. So you will notice the walls are bright and in other photographs they would be more in shadow.

The second photo was shot in natural light -- no ringflash.
I tend to prefer natural lighting over flash photos because natural light can be more dramatic because of the shadows and the highlights.

The subject is an Altamont native I've known for his entire life -- Ian Ybarra, a 2000 graduate of Labette County High School. Ian studied engineering at MIT and is currently a professional writer living in Boston. His last book was about how companies can better recruit college graduates to work for them (Recruit Or Die - Amazon.com). I frequently use him as my test shoot guinea pig when he's home visiting his family.

Well it is spring! And time for wildflowers. Was out and about today and found this field. Luckily Lauren Volmer was coming for pictures and we took advantage of the field. The colors were beautiful and light was great. Nice to see the sun.
